Swimmer rescued from Belcroute Bay

A swimmer has been rescued from the sea at Belcroute Bay.

A passer-by heard cries for help and called 999 just before 8am on Friday (10 October)

The Fire Service inshore rescue boat was launched from La Haule slipway, while a further four firefighters in water rescue clothing headed to Belcroute Bay.

A woman had got into difficulty during her morning swim, and was clinging to the rocks when the boat reached her.

She was treated for hypothermia until an ambulance arrived.

Station Commander Craig Channing has praised the quick thinking of the onlooker who raised the alarm:

“Their quick thinking and willingness to act made a critical difference.

"Had it been earlier in the day or if no one had been nearby, the outcome could have been far more serious.

"On behalf of JFRS, we wish the woman a full and speedy recovery.”
