Ministers are considering reducing the period of self-isolation for anyone who tests positive for Covid-19 but is fully vaccinated.
It comes after the UK's Health Secretary, Sajid Javid, announced the change would come into effect there for anyone who can produce negative lateral flow tests on day 6 and their final day of quarantine.
He said the move would "reduce the disruption to people's everyday lives caused by the pandemic".
It means tens of thousands of people could now be able to see their families over Christmas who previously would have had to isolate.

Jersey is said to be considering the same reduction in self-isolation time, from ten to seven days.
Officers are reviewing the implications and Ministers will make a decision on the advice of STAC, the island's medical advisors.
A government spokesperson says Jersey is not experiencing the same levels of infection as England, nor the disruption to the critical infrastructure that goes with it.
The island's Public Health officials are said to be 'carefully considering the emerging data' before making a recommendation to Ministers.
