Scores Take Part In Climate Protest 

Scores of climate protesters have staged a demonstration on Jersey's roads during Monday morning's rush-hour.

Cyclists took part in a bike swarm, riding en masse from St Aubin, along Victoria Avenue to the centre of town.

The Extinction Rebellion Jersey group organised the event to highlight the number of cars on the island's roads.

They said it was not intended to target the public, but to the highlight the lack of better and carbon neutral options, and prompt action from the government.

Jersey's government has set a target of achieving carbon-neutrality by 2030.

The cyclists rode two abreast along the south coast, escorted by police vehicles.

Officers had recommended motorists use an alternative route and allow more time for their journey to town.

The demonstration set off from St Brelade's Parish Hall at 7.45am and arrived on Broad Street in central St Helier an hour later.

Traffic was disrupted, although the cyclists themselves were also stationary at several points along the route as it became clear that many drivers had set off earlier than usual to get into town.

The protesters planned to end their demo with a 'die-in' outside Marks and Spencer on King Street.
