Permanent Education Boss Appointed

Rob Sainsbury has been made the permanent Chief Officer for the Children, Young People, Education and Skills (CYPES) department.

The States Employment has appointed Mr Sainsbury, who has held the position of interim DG since last December.

He moved to CYPES  from Health and Community Services to replace Mark Rogers.

He says it’s a real privilege to be able to continue to lead a department, who go the extra mile every day to support children, young people and families.

“During the last 12 months I’ve seen first-hand just how professional and committed colleagues are and extraordinarily resilient, especially in these recent tough times."

The government says Mr Sainsbury has more than 27 years experience in public service and is known for delivering strategic and operational change.

He started his career as a nurse in South Wales.

However, he moved to Jersey four years ago with his husband, who is a police sergeant, and has been working at Director/Board level roles since.

Children and Education Minister, Deputy Inna Gardiner says she is delighted that Jersey now has a permanent Director General to lead the CYPES department.

"The experience that Rob brings to the role is a significant step in our journey to stabilise the department.

Rob has an excellent reputation for bringing strategic and transformational change to services and I look forward to continuing to work together to ensure children and young person’s voices, and their families, are at the centre of our services.”
