Opera House appoints new Interim Board Chair

Jersey Opera House has announced the appointment of a new interim Chair. Laura Robertson takes over from Cyril Whelan who's stepped down.

A statement from the theatre also reveals Ry Williams will be Deputy Chair of the Board of Directors, supported by non-executive director and Jersey's former Chief Minister Kristina Moore.

News of Cyril Whelan's departure broke this week, two months after he took interim charge when Dave Chalk left.

Advocate Whelan's association with the theatre spans 13 years, but 'growing pressures in other commitments' led to his his decision to leave.

The lawyer is also a coroner, a judge at the Employment & Discrimination Tribunal and Chair of the Gambling Commission.

The changes in leadership have been described as an 'exciting new chapter' for the venue, which has just had a £12.5 million pound taxpayer funded refit.
