One person dead in St Helier fire

A man in his sixties has died in a house fire in St Helier.

Emergency services were called to a property in Seaton Place at around half past midnight.

Police have confirmed there was one fatality, but not given any further details at this stage.

An investigation is underway into the cause of the fire, but officers say there are no suspicious circumstances at this time.

A short statement said:

"Tragically, one person has died as a result of the incident and our thoughts are with their family and loved ones."

Eye-witness accounts describe a cornered off area in the courtyard of Lord Coutanche Court.

An updated Police statement, issued just after 11am, said enquiries continue to formally establish the identity of the person who died.

JFRS said:

"Tragically, one person has died as a result of the incident and our thoughts are with their family and loved ones.

"An investigation into the circumstances of the fire is underway, and we are working closely with our colleagues at States of Jersey Police to establish a cause."
