Sprinter Jamie Oldham is now the fastest in Jersey to run the men's 100m, and did it in the heats of the Commonwealth Games.

The 20-year-old ran 10.41 seconds, beating the previous island best of 10.48 set by teammate Steven Mackay last year at Stratford Speed GP.

Oldham said:

"To come and do it on the big stage, I'm really proud of myself; it means a lot.

"I shot out of the blocks; I was expecting the guy on my outside to shoot past me, and then when I got out past him I knew I just needed to hold form.

"And I managed to do it somehow.

"Semis would be everything; in this field, I don't think 10.41 will be quick enough, but hopefully I'll be there.

"I was quietly confident in the 100m because I PB'd in the 200m, but I didn't think I'd PB by that much, and then an island record is just the icing on the cake."
