More jobs now qualify for 'Licensed' permissions

Jersey's government is making it easier for businesses to recruit staff by easing the rules on registered and licensed job permissions.

Employees on a salary of more than £54,000 will be able to rent qualified accommodation, while those paid more than £60,000 will be eligible to buy in the qualified sector.

Plus, a wider list of jobs with lower salaries now qualify for licensed status - including education support staff, nursery workers and more healthcare roles.

For 'Registered' permissions, a salary of £30,000 or 'the going rate for the role' with seasonal and temporary immigration permit applications generally supported.

The government says it is listening to the needs of businesses.

Assistant Chief Minister, Deputy Carina Alves, said:

"It’s important that government makes it as easy as possible for businesses to take on the staff they need.

"We have listened to local employers and have taken action to make the application process simpler and more transparent with new guidance setting out the rules.

"For the first time, we have also published a list of jobs where the normal salary limits don’t apply."

Jersey's Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the announcement, describing the reforms as 'a significant step toward easing long-standing recruitment and retention challenges'.

Chamber President Lee Madden said:

"If Jersey is to maintain the services and standards the community expects, employers must be able to secure the right people.

"These updates provide clarity and workable options for businesses, especially in areas where skills are scarce.

"They recognise the recruitment pressures our members have raised and offer a more realistic framework for managing the island’s workforce needs.”
