Minister To Respond To Diabetes Petition

The Health Minister will have to respond to calls for CGM devices and insulin pumps to be available on prescription.

An e-petition calling for the devices to be available on prescription has passed 1,100 signatures.

CGM devices are worn just underneath the skin by sufferers of Type 1 Diabetes to continuously monitor sugar levels.

They are currently available on prescription in the UK but are only funded for children via a charity here.

The petition's author, Madeleine Maddison, says the island could be leading the way:

"Jersey has an opportunity to lead the way on how we support our residents in managing Type 1 diabetes as best as technology can enable. Also, I believe it is cheaper to provide the CGM devices than to provide testing strips. This will it be a huge step forward in the choice of treatments offered by the diabetes service."

The Health Minister has 28 working days to officially respond.
