Minister prioritises international-sized cricket pitch

Jersey's Infrastructure Minister has announced that an international-sized cricket pitch is a priority for his department.

Constable Andy Jehan told States Members that his focus is on delivering facilities that our cricketers deserve.

"We're in the top 30 in the world; we need to give the cricket players the relevant opportunities to play."

It came after a question was asked about whether Jersey still has the intention of bidding to host a future Island Games.

The Minister confirmed that it is still the plan:

"Once the cricket is resolved, then we will be able to do some detailed work on the FB [Fields]."

The site in St Clement is home to the island's main athletics track and field, which will be a focal point if Jersey is to host the games further down the line.

Jersey last hosted the Island Games in 2015.

International cricket is currently played at Grainville cricket ground in St Saviour and the Farmers Cricket Club in St Martin.
