Memory Box App Launches

A free app has been launched to reconnect islanders with memories from their past.

The Jersey Memory Box has themes such as school, farming and the occupation.

It has been set up by Jersey Heritage and can be downloaded via the Apple or Play store.

Lucy Layton hopes it proves popular;

"We were hoping it would be useful tool for older people and those living  with dementia who are being looked after at home  - either by carers or family members.   This is something they can download onto a tablet and take to the person's home and share with them.  It is a way of starting conversations, looking for photographs or objects that spark a memory."

The images range from a 1935 photograph of the Forum Cinema, to a tin of powdered milk from WWII, a 1970s copy of The Dandy comic and a photograph of Adam Ant arriving in Jersey for his sell-out concert at Fort Regent in 1981.

The App has been developed in partnership with Jersey Alzheimer’s Association and supported by the Channel Islands Lottery and the Association of Jersey Charities.
