Les Amis manager to take on double marathon

While hundreds of people are limbering up for this weekend's Jersey Marathon, Alex Black is preparing to go almost twice the distance.

He'll carry on going after the 26.2 miles on Sunday until he reaches the 50 mark.

The Facilities Manager for the charity that supports people with learning disabilities wanted a way to mark Les Amis' 50th anniversary.

His Miles 4 Smiles challenge will start with hundreds of other runners at the Jersey Marathon.

But once he crosses the finish line at the Weighbridge, he will continue on a route that passes Les Amis' residential homes.

"We finish at FB Fields, hopefully at around 6pm, where as many as the Les Amis community will join me for the final lap and we will complete it together."

Alex has never attempted an ultramarathon before:

"I ran the Jersey Marathon in 2019, and promised myself I would never do it again!

But when Les Amis wanted someone to help them out I couldn't say no.  These are the nicest people, the nicest community, that I have ever had the pleasure of working with."

Alex is raising money to furnish Les Amis's new nursing facility which is due to open next year.

"Through fundraising efforts and grants, we have covered the cost of construction, but in order to open it up we need to furnish it with the right equipment.

"We have set ourselves a target of £50,000 so we can do this properly."
