Jersey Post suspends USA shipments

Jersey Post has stopped its parcels service to the US ahead of a new import duty coming into effect.

In late July, the US Government announced changes to customs obligations for goods entering the country.

Previously, a parcel valued under $800 could enter the US duty-free, but this new executive order changes that, beginning this coming Friday (29 August).

All goods shipped to the USA will now require the customs duty to be paid in advance, regardless of value.

Jersey Post says pausing US-bound parcels for now will protect customers from potential delays, unexpected charges, or rejected shipments.

"As all goods with value must in future have duties paid before shipping to the US, Jersey Post cannot accept goods for delivery to USA until it has implemented an approved collection system for duties."

Jersey Post says it is working 'as hard as we can to find a solution'.

"We are working hard to implement a compliant shipping solution to collect, process and pay for duties upfront in place as quickly as possible."

It says customers can continue to send to the US using its FedEx services.

Letters and documents are unaffected.
