Further Improvement Notice For Greenfields

The Jersey Care Commission has served the Greenfields Secure Children's Home its third improvement notice in less than 12 months.

The move follows an unannounced visit from the commission in August that found that four of the previous recommendations hadn't been met and also identified a new area for improvement.

It highlights that the education given to a child in their care wasn't in place in time for the new term in September and when it was it was 'woefully inadequate'.

Staff are still reporting that they don't feel confident using de-escalation and physical intervention tactics, something that was highlighted from the inspection in March of this year.

The commissioner has recommended that the home reviews it's intervention model and considers bringing in new tactics.

The transition of care was also highlighted as a problem. The review said Greenfield 'failed to ensure that the transition plan for a care receiver included regular visits to re-establish and strengthen relationships with carers' once they had gone back into the community. 

The home can be fined £50,000 if they do not act on the recommendations.

The secure facility will continue to have visits, both pre planned and surprise, so that Jersey Care Commission can monitor the progress of the improvements.
