A family in St Clement had a lucky escape after a fire broke out in their airing cupboard overnight.
They were woken at 2am by a smoke detector and managed to put out the flames before firefighters arrived.
The blaze is thought to have been caused by faulty electrics which set light to bedding and wooden shelves.
“This is another example of how a working smoke alarm can give early warning of a fire in your home allowing you time to exit safely and call the Fire Service. In this instance the owners quick actions prevented the fire from spreading, however we would always advise that the safest action would be to get yourself and your family out and call the Fire Service.” - Crew Commander John Le Cornu
