Early Support For Waterfront Plans

The consultancy firm working on the Jersey Development Company's proposed redevelopment of the Waterfront say there's been 'clear support' for the initial concepts, particularly the outdoor public spaces.

Transformation plans for the area were unveiled last August and included demolishing the existing complex - the cinema, swimming pool, Jardins de la Mer and La Frigate cafe.

In its place could be landscaped gardens, an underground car park, indoor and outdoor pools, art gallery, amphitheatre, and 1000 homes.

A consultation and website launched in October asking for public feedback.

We're told it received 3,000 visits and 10,000 page views.

72 people initially responded to the question  ‘What would make the waterfront a success for you, your family and your friends?’  - with a lively/buzzy environment with shops, cafes, green spaces and a cinema being the top responses - followed by things for young people to do and a pool.

Around 250 people completed an online feedback questionnaire.

The main concerns that were raised were over the height of buildings and the loss of views.

Consultants say all the feedback will taken on board.

The project team says the next stage of of the consultation will begin this spring when there will be an online workshop with the designers.

All responses to the first stage of the consultation can be found here
