Les Amis has begun building a new five-bedroom nursing and complex needs home in Trinity.
Known as 'Project Trinity', a property on Rue de Bechet is being transformed into facility for islanders with learning disabilities.
The finished home will provide more complex nursing care for people who have additional needs due to age or dementia.

Les Amis' new home will have five bedrooms
Project Trinity will enable Les Amis to continue to care for those they support when their nursing needs become more complex, including end-of-life care, something that’s not possible in group residential homes.
The project is now underway after Les Amis raised enough of the £3.5m needed for the project. The charity paid £1 million to buy the property, and a further £2.5 million will be spent on the build and furnishing.
Shaun Findlay, Managing Director at Les Amis, says people should be moved in by next July:
"This will be the first of its kind that we believe is in the Channel Islands - that is specifically for learning disabilities or associated conditions that require nursing care in later life.
"The setting has got green sites around it with no plans for anybody to build there, so it means it will be a tranquil, quiet environment, ideal for people at the later stages of life so they can enjoy the peace and quiet.
"We're maintaining independence as much as possible. We will continue to encourage people to cook together and eat together until they're physically unable to do so."
Trinity Constable Philip Le Sueur, and Les Amis Trustees symbolically put the first spades into the ground last week - marking the start of construction on the project.
Leslie Norman MBE, Chair and Trustee, commented: “It’s been clear to all of us who work with the charity that this has been needed for a long time. We almost got there with the Maison des Amis project at the former Hampshire Hotel, but this bespoke facility will be the first of its kind in the Channel Islands. Getting this project underway is the perfect way to celebrate our 50th anniversary year.”
