Charity Match For Late Hautlieu Student

A charity football match is taking place this month in memory of a Hautlieu student who died last July from cancer.

Callum's Cup is a charity match at Springfield Stadium in memory of Callum McNulty, who passed away after a four year battle with Ewings Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer.

The 18-year-old is described as being a lovely, brave and extremely intelligent young man, and is missed by all at Hautlieu, Grainville and Springfield schools.

Callum's mum Jo says before he died, Callum had hopes of passing The London Institute of Banking Diploma in Financial Studies.

Callum loved football, especially Liverpool FC, and Formula 1 and found solace in sports throughout the course of his treatment.

"He loved Liverpool, he just loved football.

He played for Springfield, Grainville and Trinity for a little while before he became ill, and that's why we're doing the match - because of Callum's passion for the sport.

Liverpool was a release for him when things got a bit tough, he enjoyed sitting and watching the matches and went over to the city to see them a few times."

Jo says he also had an influence in the new Les Quennevias skate park.

"When he first got diagnosed at 14 years old he lived in the skate park. He would be delighted to see the new skate park.

He was an ambassador for that. He gave them advice on what to do with the facility years ago, and here it is now.

Due to Callum's passion for football, the schools decided to get together and set up the match between their Year 11 classes.

 All of the money raised will be going towards Ewing's Sarcoma Research Trust which has been chosen by Callum’s parents.

"It's important that we do raise awareness of Ewings Sarcoma and Callum wanted to that.

But I'm his voice now, and he wanted to raise awareness that anyone over the age of 18 had the right to go and get checked and to ask about things they're not sure of or worried about."
