Jersey’s Jonny Labey has presented a new fetal monitor to the Maternity Ward at the General Hospital.
The ex Eastenders actor, who’s currently staring in Strictly Ballroom in London’s West End, has been involved in the appeal to raise money for the machine and is also an ambassador for UK charity Baby Lifeline.
He joined the Baby Bean Appeal in 2016, when the initiative created by Baby Lifeline, Philip’s Footprints and Friends of SCBU, raised funds for five wireless monitors.
The latest monitor has been paid for through fundraising including Jonny’s performance of ‘Swingin in the Rain’ at Jersey Opera House, a gala ball to mark 10 years of Philip’s Footprints and a celebrity screening of rom-com film ‘You, Me and Him’ at Cineworld Jersey last month.
The wireless monitors give expectant mums freedom to move around during labour.
Julie Mycock, Head of Midwifery, said “The hospital is so appreciative of the efforts of Philip’s Footprints and Baby Lifeline and we were delighted to welcome Jonny Labey to the Maternity Unit to present the new monitor. Being able to use the wireless monitors makes a huge difference to many of the women who are about to give birth – they are very important and hugely valued pieces of equipment.”
Proud to present this new baby monitor to the Jersey Maternity unit on behalf of @babylifeline. This vital state of the art machine costs £16k and completely changes the flexibility of monitoring during last stages of pregnancy. Well done team! 🙌🏻 On to the next one! pic.twitter.com/OPBjkWCHkQ
