£1 million into Jersey sport in 2026

Rory Le Masurier, Jersey Sport Performance Programme athlete

Jersey Sport has announced a record £1 million investment into local sport in 2026.

The six-figure sum will be the largest single-year funding commitment in the organisation’s history.

Funding has risen from £300,000 in 2024 to almost £800,000 in 2025.

The money goes to support clubs, athletes, and community support across the island.

Part of the increase is possible because, in August, politicians agreed Jersey Sport should be able to distribute proceeds from the Channel Islands Lottery.

The impact of the investment is felt by clubs and athletes - particularly those on the Jersey Sport Performance Programme.

Athlete Rory Le Masurier, who is on the programme, says it's had a direct impact on his results:

"It's enabled me to attend international tournaments and gain experience against European players, as well as compete more in England and attend a training camp in Denmark.

"I've won quite a few tournaments this year and increased my English ranking."

Charity, Skateboard Jersey, has been helped too with funding to employ an operations manager and sessional coaches to meet the growing  demand of the sport.

David Kennedy, CEO of Jersey Sport, says the funding is aligned with the real needs of island sport:

"Distributing £1 million is not just a milestone, it's a statement of what's possible when passion and perseverance come together.

"This investment gives sport a powerful platform to grow."
