Women Allowed To Watch Dinner Boxing

The move is designed to attract a new audience to The Guernsey Dinner Boxing Club.

From this winter, women will be able to spectate at bouts for the first time in the Club's 50 year history.

Chairman Micky Robert says the move is partly driven by Guernsey's corporate sector, as a number of companies have told him they would buy tables for events, if they allowed women:

"Times have changed. Things have changed. So we've decided that we're going to open it up to ladies. It never used to be, but we've now got female boxers and female officials."

Micky Robert says the dress code is also being relaxed from strict black tie, to encourage newcomers:

"A lot of the younger generation don't really want to wear a DJ when they go out. They'd sooner wear trousers and a jacket. So we've said we'd relax it, where a DJ is preferred, but we'll also allow dark lounge suits with a black normal tie."

The Club hosts bouts at the St Pierre Park Hotel several times over the winter against visiting boxers from England.
