17 Guernsey families say they initially approached The Guardian newspaper over safeguarding concerns, and not Deputy St Pier.
The issue of safeguarding at Guernsey's Medical Specialist Group has been in the spotlight for several years.
It follows Deputy Gavin St Pier naming Dr Sandie Bohin from the MSG whilst giving a personal example of his concerns during a States debate three years ago, using parliamentary privilege.
Since then, several official complaints have been made against him about his conduct.
The latest, from Dr Bohin, centres on Deputy St Pier talking to a Guardian newspaper journalist about the extent of safeguarding issues in Guernsey and the number of families involved.
The 17 families, who are remaining anonymous, say it was they that made the approach to the reporter.
In a long letter to the media, the families explain their position and say there are complaints against the medical establishment dating back years.
They say that Deputy St Pier stood by them and helped their cause through what they describe as 'the darkest and most terrifying times of our lives.'
In the letter, they say they have concerns that the Code of Conduct issue has become 'weaponised.'
Guernsey's Commissioner for Standards reviewed the complaint that was made earlier this year and concluded the deputy had breached six sections of the Code of Conduct for States Members by confirmed what its report described as 'confidential and seriously inaccurate and misleading information' to the journalist.
The punishment is potentially a 25 day suspension for the deputy.
This will be debated by States members in its meeting tomorrow (26 November).
The British Medical Association (BMA) and the MSG are publicly backing Dr Bohin and have asked that deputies do the same.
Deputies Tom Rylatt and Rhona Humphreys have also waded in.
They say the Commissioner for Standards' recommendation of a 25 day suspension concerns them, and sets an awkward precedent about deputies going to the media.
