Guernsey's States says people should 'stay at home if possible' when Storm Ciaran hits. States-run schools will be closed on Thursday (2 November)

The authorities have issued advice to prepare for the arrival of Storm Ciaran.

It is expected to arrive on Wednesday, bringing damaging winds of up to 90 miles an hour, and potential coastal flooding.  The worst is due to hit in the early hours of Thursday.

Guernsey's government says 'islanders are being advised to stay at home if possible and not travel unless essential'.

States-run school will be closed on Thursday.  Colleges and nurseries will make their own decisions whether to open,

Police will be checking on road conditions and issue advice.

Motorists needing to make an 'essential journey' are advised to check the latest information and plan their route.

The strong winds could bring down trees, and the wind and high tide are expected to combine to cause flooding along coastal roads.

Buses services are likely to be limited if CT Plus determines they cannot be operated safely.

Businesses are being advised to request staff work from home where possible.

Condor has already warned of prolonged disruption to ferry sailings, and air travellers should expect services to be delayed or cancelled over the coming days.

Islanders should secure their property, especially outdoor furniture, and boatowners should check on their vessels.
