States confirm a complaint has been registered with the Office for Environmental Health and Pollution Regulation.
Island FM has been told that one of the finance houses along the South Esplanade has registered a complaint over rodent numbers.
It is understood they have been spotted there in number since the summer.
We approached the St Peter Port constables but were told pest control in public spaces is the remit of the States.
As well as confirming a complaint has been lodged with Environmental Health, a spokesperson told us:
“Agriculture, Countryside and Land Management Services keeps the area of public land on South Esplanade under review and is considering whether targeted control would be appropriate.
The overall population of rats in Guernsey is not monitored, however, the number of rats in certain areas are monitored from time to time for control purposes.”
A pest controller we spoke to says it is usual for rats to migrate indoors as the weather begins to cool.
