Police Respond To Child Fights

Guernsey Police say they are stepping up patrols of public events and problem hot spots following more fights involving young people.

This month, officers have been called to a brawl involving a boy and a group of 10-12 year old girls near Beau Sejour and an assault on a boy at La Vallette bathing pools.

The first happened on Good Friday (7 April).

Police say the boy was 'intimidated and set upon' by a group of girls, and that he then assaulted them.

Members of the public stepped in to break up the fight before police arrived.

"The youths involved were identified and a number of enquiries have since been carried out." - Bailiwick Law Enforcement statement.

Last Saturday (15 April), a boy was assaulted at La Vallette bathing pools.

Police say they 'were made aware of this incident later that day and a full investigation into the circumstances is currently underway.'

"It is understood there were several people in the area at the time and Police are still keen for anyone who may have witnessed any part of this incident to come forward to speak to officers"

The force says the fights this month aren't linked to each other, nor to organised disturbances involving youngsters that were reported last year.

"But as we step into the spring and summer months and start to see an increase in the number of public events that lead to large gatherings in various locations across the island, we will be closely monitoring these types of incidents and working closely with partner agencies and event organisers to ensure that our community can enjoy themselves safely.

We will also be ensuring suitable Policing resources are in place to accommodate any additional calls for service and conducting high visibility patrols to reassure and protect the community and be ready to respond to incidents that may occur."

Anyone with information on either of the latest fights is asked to contact the police station on 01481 222222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
