The 316 seater San Pawl has been brought from Malta aboard a special boat transporter vessel.
It has taken one week for the high speed passenger catamaran to make its way from Valletta in Malta to St Peter Port aboard the Eemslift Hendrika, a special boat transporter that also had two yachts on deck.
It entered St Peter Port exactly on time at 8am.
A special cradle had to be fashioned for it to fit on the boat, from where it was craned off.
The company was started last year and has been given £150,000 by the States of Guernsey to improve sea connectivity. It comes as inter island sailings between Guernsey and Jersey are once a week aboard either Brittany Ferries or DFDS.
The boat has already been painted in Islands Unlimited livery and its director and captain, Chad Murray, spent some time on the vessel on routes around Malta and says she will be ideal for the local conditions:
“I’ve been impressed with her sea keeping qualities and manoeuvrability."
"As a surface effect ship, the air cushion system provides good comfort, even in moderate to rough sea conditions, as well as good efficiency and speed.”
The San Pawl will run frequent daily crossings between Guernsey and Jersey from the end of May.
