Islanders Challenged To Complete 30 Walks In 30 Days

Les Bourgs Hospice is encouraging people in Guernsey to complete 30 walks across 30 days throughout April.

Those who take on the challenge will aim to walk 10,000 steps or a daily mile from 1st to 30th April.

Some suggestions of walking routes around the island are signposted as part of the Health Improvement Commission's 'Walk This Way' campaign.

Alternatively, islanders can follow routes from the National Trust of Guernsey, Ruette Tranquille's online guide or app, or one of their own choosing.

A new team entry also offers the option to convert steps to mileage to see how far four people can travel across the world in 30 days.

If each person in the team completes 10,000 steps daily, they would have traveled around 600 miles - the distance from Guernsey to Spain.

Teams can also compete with each other to see who can accumulate the most steps.

Fundraising Administrator at Les Bourgs Hospice Liz Stonebridge hopes the new team challenge will encourage more businesses to get involved.

"There are so many physical and mental health benefits to walking but with busy, modern lifestyles we often don't walk enough.

This fundraising challenge aims to reinforce the excellent work of the Health Improvement Commission but also add an element of fun and competitiveness with the new team option.

We are hoping that businesses will encourage employees to sign up to align with their health and wellbeing strategies."

100% of money raised goes directly towards supporting free, specialist care for patients and their loved ones.
