Guernsey's planning authority advances two major projects

People in Guernsey will be able to have their say on two major planning projects.

A review into the Island Development Plan (IDP) is the first project being progressed by the Development & Planning Authority.

It focuses on the development of affordable housing, housing sites, land for offices, industry and storage.

The DPA is also looking at ways to make the process of amending the IDP easier, so it can be adapted in response to changing demands and government priorities.

The draft changes are expected to be published in June.

The second project is the preparation of a Local Planning Brief for the St Peter Port and St Sampson's Harbour Action Areas.

The brief, to be published in August, will set out the polices that all developments in these areas must comply with, forming part of the IDP once given States approval.

DPA President, Deputy Victoria Oliver, says there may be confusion with both projects running at the same time.

"There will be points in the year when we may find we're trying to explain both to the community. Unfortunately, that's unavoidable if we're to complete these pieces of work this term, which is our aim."

Both projects will face an inspector led independent planning inquiry as well as an opportunity for members of the public to have their say on the proposals.
