Guernsey's new harbour berth endorsed by operator

The Cross Berth at the White Rock is praised by Islands Unlimited for its ease of access on all tides.

The Cross Berth at St Peter Port harbour was renewed over the past winter at a budget of £850,000.

It enables vessels and passengers easier access to the pontoon and the steps to the passenger terminal, importantly, on all tides.

Duty harbour master Simon Granger is pleased with the end result:

"The reconstruction of the X Berth is an important investment in our harbour infrastructure, replacing an ageing facility with a modern berth designed to meet current and future operational needs.

“We are pleased to have completed these works on budget and ahead of the summer season.

"The X Berth plays a crucial role in supporting mid‑size passenger vessels, such as those operated by Islands Unlimited as well as accommodating super yachts up to 40m in length.

“This is a significant improvement to our harbour facilities at a time of continued growth in Guernsey’s sea connectivity.”

The work involved putting in new piles to support the pontoon which has a self levelling gangway.

Inter island ferry company Islands Unlimited was the first operator to use the new facility over the Easter weekend. Its CEO is Chad Murray:

"It performed extremely well from the outset. The improvements it brings—particularly in terms of access at all states of tide—are a real step forward for our operations and for the island.

“The Easter period ran very smoothly for us, which is a great start to the season."
