Organisers say the Cavalcade and St Peter Port activities will continue but individual parish celebrations may not happen.
May 9 2025 was the big one, with a Royal visit, fly-pasts and ambitious St Peter Port and parish celebrations, including a drone show finale at the North Beach.
As preparations for 2026 get underway, organisers say it will be a more low-key affair.
Helen Glencross heads up Guernsey Museums:
"While the footprint will be smaller in 2026 as it isn’t a landmark year, such as the 80th, we remain committed to ensuring the day retains its significance.
"The commemorative aspect is as important as the celebrations, and we will continue to share the voices and stories of the wartime
generation.”
It is clear that the morning St Peter Port seafront parades and the Church Service will continue, as will the military vehicle cavalcade and the attractions on the Crown and Albert piers.
But Vale constable Richard Leale has confirmed that neither the Vale nor St Peter's parishes will have their own celebrations.
A question mark hangs over St Andrew's, which normally organises parish activities at The Last Post pub.
This year, the Princess Royal, Princess Anne, was a guest at the extensive commemorations at L'Eree.
Deputy Andy Cameron from Education, Sport and Culture says the main attractions will need outside help:
"Financial sponsorship is crucial, but so too is practical support.
"Volunteers offered through corporate social responsibility programmes can make a real and tangible difference to what we are able to deliver.
“I would urge any business that is able to support us, in any way, to get in touch and be part of creating a day the whole island can be proud of.”
