Guernsey's Alex Scott wins first England cap

Guernsey's Alex Scott won his first senior England cap.

The Bournemouth midfielder came on a substitute for Eliot Anderson in the 70th minute in their 2-nil win away to a 10-man Czech Republic in the Nations League.

The 23 year old has been waiting for his chance to get onto the field, and told ITV Sport afterward:

"I am obviously really happy. It is something you dream of as a kid, and when you're young you don't think it's ever going to be a reality.

"A lot of hard work has gone into that, and I am grateful for the opportunity.

"You grow up watching some of these lads here.. now to be a part of the squad and the team as well, it's a massive honour."

Earlier this month, as a press conference announcing his squad, manager Thomas Tuchel described Scott as 'one of the very best midfielders at the moment in the Premier League'.

His club has been celebrating his England debut:

 

 

Scott becomes only the second Guernsey man to play for England's men's national team, following Matt Le Tissier who won 8 caps in the 1990s.

Graeme Le Saux, from Jersey, made 36 appearances for England between 1994 and 2000.

Guernsey's Maya Le Tissier has 14 senior caps for England's women's team.

England's men's next Nations League opponents are Croatia on Saturday 3 October.
