Guernsey Students Shortlisted In Global Art Competition

Two talented teens from Ladies College have been shortlisted for the prestigious Sovereign Art Foundation’s Global Students Prize.

Cait Le Noury and Lily Parkes's artwork has been uploaded to an online exhibition.

The pieces will go up against 16 other student finalists from around the world.

The judges will select a winner who will personally receive £800 and an additional £2,000 for their school.

Cait says her acrylic painting is meant to be symbolic and emotive:

"I wanted to capture the explosion of colours you see in a field.

The colours represent different celebratory emotions to make the viewer feel positive."

Lily Parkes, 18, 'Now and Then'

Lily used acrylic paint, plaster of paris, perspex and ink to create her piece.

She says she was inspired by Guernsey's occupation during World War Two - and the piece is meant to represent the difference between 2023 and the 1940s:

"This topic has fascinated me from a young age and I find it inspiring how the island has worked to preserve bunkers and Martello towers as a stark reminder of such difficult times.

I have used black and white acrylic and the infamous photo of Nazi soldiers marching down the high street to capture the evocative juxtaposition."

The winners will be announced on 5 February.
