Guernsey Police stop 141 cars in road safety crackdown

68% of cars checked by Guernsey Police during Operation Clear Water were found to be faulty.

Guernsey Police officers with the Roads Policing Unit spent February carrying out a series of proactive checks to assess the roadworthiness of vehicles in the island.

141 cars were stopped - 38 had significant issues, another 58 had minor faults.

Officers checked for defective tyres, brakes and lights, along with defects in glass, ineffective wipers and windows that haven’t been properly cleared of condensation.

Advisory slips were given to help drivers correct defects.

On social media, the police shared this message:

"Although this campaign has ended, our commitment to helping islanders stay safe on our roads continues.

"Officers will remain vigilant throughout the year, ensuring drivers understand their responsibilities as vehicle owners.

"Consider whether your vehicle is safe for the road before setting off.

"A few small checks at home can make a big difference to everyone’s safety on our roads."
