Generous CI Lottery grants given to local charities

More than half a million pounds has been gifted to charitable organisations and community groups in Guernsey and Jersey.

Guernsey's Social Investment Fund and Jersey's Community Foundation have been given almost £600,000 from the Channel Islands Lottery to distribute to 'projects making a meaningful difference in Island communities.'

In Guernsey, two projects were awarded £100,000 or more.

The Guernsey Sports Commission gets £103,000 over three years to continue its school activity programme called On Your Marks.

Le Murier's long-term goal of a purpose-built hut next to the school to encourage independent living gets £100,000.

The Lihou charity gets £52,000 to pay for its manager.

Among the smaller donations from the Lottery, Sylvans minis get £2,000 for new goals and netting.

Meanwhile, 14 Jersey projects have received a share of £225,395.09.

Among them are Jersey Heritage, the Jersey Basketball Association and Trees for Life.

A large portion of the funds was allocated to organisations providing direct support to children.

Brighter Futures, NSPCC Jersey, and Jersey Youth Trust each received £30,000.

Head of the Channel Islands Lottery, Jon Taylor, says the funding will help charities make a lasting difference to young people across the islands.

“Children and young people are at the heart of our Island communities and investing in their future is one of the most important things we can do.

"The charitable organisations receiving funding this year are delivering invaluable support, opportunities and experiences that help young Islanders thrive.

“Every Channel Islands Lottery ticket sold helps generate funding that stays within our communities.

"Through our trusted partners, we can ensure that this money reaches organisations and projects that are making a real and lasting difference to the lives of children, young people and families across Jersey.”
