Ferry firm eyes Alderney to improve inter-islands connections

Credit: Islands Unlimited

Islands Unlimited says it could add Alderney as a destination following successful berthing trials.

The inter-islands ferry company has tested its San Pawl vessel in Braye Harbour.

The company, which operates a seasonal daily foot passenger service between Jersey and Guernsey, says it is exploring how to enhance connectivity across the Channel Islands.

The exercise on Wednesday (20 May) was to ensure the San Pawl is compatible with the harbour and can manoeuvre and berth safely.

A spokesperson said:

“The successful berthing trial confirms that SAN PAWL is capable of safely operating passenger services into Alderney, which is an exciting development as we continue exploring ways to strengthen inter-island transport links across the Bailiwick.”

The ferry firm says further updates will be provided as discussions continue.

Islands Unlimited began seasonal services in summer 2025 and carried around 27,000 passengers.

It started 2026 services in March this year, offering two rotations daily on its 300 capacity vessel. It has an agreement with Brittany Ferries to market its inter-islands connections.
