'Encouraging start to the year' for Guernsey's Tourism sector

Latest figures for Guernsey suggest the tourism's sector gradual recovery from the Covid-19 Pandemic continues.

According to the Travel and Visitor Accommodation Bulletin, the total number of visitors and locals leaving Guernsey in the first three months of 2024 was 78,582.

This is 8% more than this time last year, but 13% less than in the first quarter of 2019.

Compared to last year, 31% more visitors came for leisure reasons while business visitors fell by more than a fifth.

Tourists are also staying slightly longer. On average, visitors are coming to the Bailiwick for 4.5 nights - up from four this time last year.

The Chair of Guernsey's Tourism Management Board, Hannah Beacom, says she is optimistic:

"What we are seeing is significantly more visitors travelling for leisure, for both day trips and longer breaks, in what have traditionally been our quieter months for tourism.

Overall, an encouraging start to the year for Guernsey."
