Cimandis to pull food wholesale operation from the Channel Islands

The Channel Islands' largest food wholesaler is pulling out of both Jersey and the Bailiwick of Guernsey.

The retailer has announced that, by the end of August, it will no longer serve Guernsey, Alderney, Herm and Sark.

It comes just weeks after revealing it will cease trading in Jersey by the end of July.

Cimandis says that it has been a 'tough decision'. However, due to the current economic environment, operations in Guernsey are proving 'unsustainable'.

It blames increased rent, freight and logistical costs.

Managing Director of Cimandis, Nigel Holliday, says they will take every necessary measure to ensure a smooth transition for hotels and restaurants.

"We will be running stock clearance sales to help support local food operators with the essential products needed to maintain menu continuity during the busy summer season.

"This will be a gradual change, and as a result, we will be working closely with our recruitment agencies and other local employers to assist our affected team members in finding new roles.

"We will be sure to keep you informed of timelines in the coming weeks, but if you have any further queries regarding this change, including concerns about product availability, please do not hesitate to contact your Account Manager in the first instance.

"We want to take this opportunity to thank you for your understanding and loyalty, as well as your valued business and support."
