Choices Clinic Moves To New Home

Guernsey's contraception and family planning charity has moved to a bigger and better base at the North Plantation.

The Deputy Bailiff, Jessica Roland, officially opened Choices' new premises.

The relocation, which began in May, means the clinic can now make use of three additional treatment rooms, a dedicated counsellor room and two more waiting areas.

Dr Lucy Joslin from Choices says this move will help achieve the goal of a Bailiwick where every pregnancy is wanted:

"This is an enormous milestone for the clinic. Anyone who visited our previous premises will know how cramped and limited we were and that they were old-fashioned and upstairs.

With our new clinic, we're now on a ground floor level so we've got increased accessibility to anyone who may have a buggy or anyone who may be disabled.

So this is a huge improvement, we're able to offer modern facilities, meeting modern medical standards, and it's just fresh and up-to-date and it's a joy to be here.”

She added that the expansion was necessary to better-serve a large percentage of the community:

“The latest figure show that Choices actually provides contraception to 75% of the island's under 21s, so we're really thrilled to be the foremost providers for that, we also offer affordable contraception to all age groups."
