Ban for Guernsey supporter cautioned over Muratti trouble

A Guernsey football fan has been cautioned over disorder at this year's Muratti.

Trouble broke out at men's inter islands football final, where Guernsey beat Jersey 2-1 at Springfield in May.

Following the final whistle, disorder broke out involving several individuals on the pitch.

States of Jersey Police say a suspect was identified via footage including from a drone deployed during the game.

Officers worked with Guernsey colleagues to return the man to Jersey voluntarily for questioning.

He received a written caution for his conduct.

The man has been banned by both islands FAs from attending any future games.

Jersey's Chief Officer Robin Smith said:

"The Muratti is a proud part of both our Island's sporting history and is enjoyed by thousands of people across Jersey and Guernsey. Good natured rivalry between our Islands is part of the occasion and something that many people enjoy.

"What we saw on this occasion was completely unacceptable and not in keeping with either the event or the values of our communities. It was important therefore that the individual responsible was identified and held accountable for his actions.

"I would like to thank our officers, our colleagues in Guernsey and both football associations for their support. The actions of one individual will not spoil what remains one of the Channel Islands' great sporting occasions."

In June, it was reported that three banning orders were issued in relation to the Muratti violence.
