Alderney States complain about Aurigny's performance

Policy and Finance is raising concerns about reliability, disruption and customer communication on the Alderney routes.

Alderney's senior committee has written directly to Aurigny's shareholder, the States Trading Supervisory Board, about issues islanders have raised with them.

These include delays, cancellations and poor customer communication.

P&F chair Jeannie Cameron says the States of Alderney represent the interests of island passengers and stresses the importance of good air connectivity:

"Alderney relies heavily on dependable transport links and the current level of disruption is having a real impact on residents, businesses and connectivity with the rest of the Bailiwick.

"We have asked for urgent clarification on the causes of these issues and for a clear plan to restore confidence in the service."

Late last week, Aurigny said it had experienced operational issues followed by a weekend of fog disruption.

It cancelled two Alderney flights last Thursday (5 March) because it needed to trial the patient lift for its new Twin Otter aircraft, operated under an agreement between Aurigny and south west airline Skybus.

Those trials were successful and the medevac facility, needed to airlift anyone who needs urgent off island care, is certified ready.

Over the weekend (7 and 8 March) Alderney and Guernsey experienced fog which cancelled Alderney flights. These weather related issues continued into Monday.

Aurigny says the States of Alderney complaint is a matter for its shareholder, the STSB.
