Alderney Features In French Murder Mystery Series

French TV crews filmed on location in Alderney earlier this month for the TV series 'Murder In...'

The long-running series is filmed for the tv channel France 3.

It's known for being a cross between a traditional murder mystery and a French travelogue, specialising in choosing unusual locations across the country.

Alderney of course isn't part of France, but it sits just eight miles from Cap de la Hague and it's twinned with its nearest French town, Beaumont Hague.

Anne-Isabelle Boulon of Visit Alderney has seen some of the shows:

"The idea of the tv show is to highlight the place where it is filmed. I believe it will highlight Alderney in a very good way."

This 97th edition is titled 'Murder in Bayeux,' the Normandy town famous for its tapestry. And that's another link with Alderney because the community got together in 2012 to make the final, missing scene of the tapestry. It is on display in the island's library.

The French TV crew filmed the three actors who travelled to Alderney at the library, in Braye Street near the harbour, and the High Street.

Filming took place in early April but discussions have been ongoing since last August.

Anne-Isabelle Boulon of Visit Alderney hopes it will inspire more French visitors to come to Alderney:

"It's a very popular series. Hopefully, people will get curious about it and will look on Google where it is and eventually some of them will visit the island."

Library volunteer and creator of the Alderney tapestry, Kate Russel, says she hopes more people will come over:

"I think this will help tourism, but our biggest problem is getting from Bayeux to Alderney.

If we could do something about our travel links it would make all the difference in the world to Aldenernsy's future and possibly having more filmed here."
