Zoo Prepares To Reopen

Jersey Zoo is preparing to reopen to the public soon.

No date has been given yet, but the wildlife park is working on measures to keep staff, visitors and animals safe when it can finally unlock the gates.

Durrell closed the 32 acre site in Trinity on Tuesday 24th March because of measures to reduce the spread of coronavirus.

The trust says numbers will be limited, tickets will have to be pre-booked, entry staggered and masks will have to be worn.

There will be no keeper talks, and indoor enclosures and the children's play areas will be remain shut.

Other measures include:

– Protective screening will be installed at contact points
– Card payments only, no cash will be accepted
– Floor markings will demarcate 2m distances to manage queues
– Hand sanitiser points around the zoo
– Both cafés will offer takeaway options only

Jersey's government is hoping to move to Level 3 of lockdown next week, meaning there will be no limit to the amount of time islanders can spend outdoors. We are currently restricted to four hours.
