VIDEO: Crush the turtle returned to the wild

Watch the moment Crush the turtle - found washed up on a Jersey beach during Storm Goretti - is released back to the wild.

The rare loggerhead was found cold stunned on the sand by a dog walker in January.

She spent several weeks at New Era Veterinary Hospital before being flown to the UK for specliast rehab at the Sea Life Centre in Weymouth.

Jersey bids farewell to Crush the loggerhead turtle

Regular CT scans, blood tests and vets assessments, as well as a carefully managed diet, ensured her return to full health.

This week, she was taken to the Azores to be returned to warmer waters.

Crush has been fitted with a satellite tracker so conservationists can monitor her.

Littlefeet Environmental, the group that released her, said:

"So Crush is free! After fitting her with a swanky new satellite transmitter, funded by the generous donations we have received from our corporate beach clean partners, we took her out to sea in the channel between Faial and Pico in the Azores.

"We will be posting regular updates on her whereabouts here as and when we get them. Stay tuned to Littlefeet for more!"

New Era said:

"Crush made it to freedom! We would like to thank everyone for their involvement in her survival 🙂"
