Multiple reasons have been given for the delays many Jersey customers are experiencing to their Amazon orders, including UK customs checks and severe weather.
Items ordered to Jersey are often being given significantly longer estimated delivery dates than orders for the same goods sent to the UK or to Guernsey.
Orders appear to be held up for inconsistent periods of time before they are dispatched - with their status sitting as 'ordered', sometimes for more than a week, before they leave the online retailer's warehouses, even with an Amazon Prime membership which used to expedite shipping.
The reason for the wait many islanders are experiencing remains a mystery though, with a variety of reasons being given for the delays.
An Amazon spokesperson has cited 'severe weather', whilst a customer service agent for the retailer - responding to one customer - blamed 'UK customs checks'. Jersey Post says it is 'confident' that there are no customs issues.
Other reasons given by Amazon when asked about the waits include 'increased checks over Christmas', 'limited transport options', and 'shipping logistics'.
Test orders of a Fire TV Stick from Amazon Prime, placed on Wednesday, 7 January, had a delivery date discrepancy of 10 days:

The slow delivery times, sometimes of more than a fortnight, were particularly noted over Christmas.
Islanders took to social media to question the waits, with one writing: 'Something has happened since early December 2025 and Amazon is purposely, for unknown reasons, delaying the dispatch of items to Jersey addresses'.
Last week, one customer reported receiving explanation blaming 'custom checks at UK ports... limited transport options' and 'shipping logistics.'

A spokesperson for Jersey Post told Channel 103 that, whilst they are working on understanding the cause, there are no customs or operational issues.
One respondent to the above post wrote: 'Doesn't seem to answer why it now takes them 8 to 10 days before actually dispatching the orders?'
Jersey Post said it only takes responsibility for the delivery of Amazon goods 'once dispatched from their depot.'

Channel 103 contacted Amazon UK and received this response:
"We're aware of delays in delivering to the Channel Islands, which have been caused by severe weather.
"We're urgently working with our carriers and delivery partners on this, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused."
Jersey Post said:
"Aside from the impact of recent ferry delays, we are confident there are no specific operational issues, capacity constraints or customs issues affecting goods once dispatched by Amazon and Jersey Post continues to meet its normal Amazon service standards."
Jersey Consumer Council says the delays were brought to its attention in November, and they contacted the government, Customs and Jersey Post.
Carl Walker, Chairman of Jersey Consumer Council, says that - at the time - all three said that everything was normal, but that since then the issue has only become more prevalent:
"We've been back in touch with Jersey Post, who is investigating it again to see if something along the chain is broken.
"It's a tricky one, because Jersey Post and Amazon are saying 'it's not us', so there is something in the chain that is impacting this.
"In that journey, Customs is involved, the ferry operator, and potentially a haulage operator is involved.
"Because of the expensive of shopping locally, some people rely [on Amazon] for their groceries and essential items.
"We need to get this resolved."
