Update Next Week On More Support For Ukraine

The Chief Minister is due to give a 'comprehensive update' to the States Assembly next week on what more Jersey will do to help the people of Ukraine.

The UK Government has launched the 'Homes for Ukraine' scheme.

That allows people, charities, businesses, and community groups to offer a home to a Ukrainian person or family fleeing the war, even if they have no ties to Britain.

In Jersey, family members of Ukrainian nationals living in Jersey can apply for a visa to seek refuge in the island.

Six nationals have arrived so far.

The government says between 10 and 15 more are expected within the next fortnight.

The Council of Ministers met last night (23 March) and Senator John Le Fondré will provide an update to politicians on Tuesday 29 March.

The States Assembly formally condemned the actions of Russia in the last States sitting.

Ministers were told to report back at the next meeting on the steps being taken to give support and deliver aid to the people of Ukraine.

A helpline, email address, and website have been set up to offer support to Ukrainian nationals coming into the island.
