'12 Bays of Christmas' launches to raise funds for two Jersey organisations

The team that took part in the 2023 challenge

Following ‘30 Bays in 30 Days’, Jersey Hospice Care and The National Trust for Jersey are commencing the festive edition of their sea swim challenge.

After the summer event raised £20,000 for the two charities, ‘12 Bays of Christmas' encourages local sea swimmers to brave the (now slightly colder) waters.

Islanders are invited to take a dip in 12 bays listed on a map between 1 and 31 December.

Each bay on the list has a festively themed name, for example ‘Port-let it Snow’, ‘Jingle all the Ouaisné'.

Half of the money raised from those taking on the challenge will go to Jersey Hospice Care, the other half to Jersey's National Trust.

Donna Le Marrec from the National Trust for Jersey said: "People come along in Christmas hats, they wear festive-themed swimwear, people are just brilliant.

"Some people will pay the entrance fee and that will be it.. others will work really hard and have sponsors and raise much more money."

The cost of participation is £50 for a team of 5, £12 for adults and £5 for children under 12 and swimmers are encouraged to raise a minimum of £12 in sponsorship.
