Revised Strive hotel plans given the go ahead

The Planning Committee has unanimously approved plans for a hotel at Strive in St Peter.

It's the revised plans that have received approval, after being changed slightly, following a nearly year-long process of applications and refusal.

The new plans are for a shorter building with up to 155 bedrooms, along with the original conference centre and spa.

The hotel and health club in St Peter was first proposed last August.

Those plans were rejected in November because of its size, despite receiving support from Jersey Chamber of Commerce, Visit Jersey, Jersey Sport, the Economy Department and the Jersey Rugby Club.

The £55 million 179-bedroom complex, with a spa, pool and conference centre, was called 'overly-dominant and imposing', adding that it would cause 'harmful impact on the character of the countryside'.

In February, the government's Cabinet Office said the removal of plans to develop 'state of the art all weather training facilities' from the revised application 'fundamentally weakens the planning merits'.

Today, all six members of the Planning Committee voted in favour of the development.
