The Parish of St Helier has bought the Allix Shipyard Garden at Havre des Pas for £1.
The purchase, from the Vingtaine de la Ville, was approved at a Parish Assembly meeting last October.
The land officially changed ownership last Friday (23 January).
The area has been cordoned off for essential repairs, which are expected to take eight weeks.
Constable Simon Crowcroft says he delighted the parish can get to work there:
"I look forward to seeing the area restored to its former glory in time for the summer."
Allix's Shipyard was a prominent site of shipbuilding in Jersey between 1830 and 1904.
It was transformed into commemorative gardens in the early 2000s, to celebrate the island's maritime past.
