Soft play, serious training for Jersey's firefighters

Credit: JFRS

Jersey's firefighters have been testing their rescue skills in an unusual place... the old soft play area at Fort Regent.

Photos shared on the Fire Service's social media show the crew in full gear, with helmets and masks, amongst the colourful rope bridges and slides in Adventures Playzone, which closed to the public last year.

On-call firefighters were taken to the Fort last week for the tactical firefighting training session.

JFRS says the exercise forms part of Breathing Apparatus air management training, hence the oxygen masks and cylinders, and its hazardous materials (HAZMAT) awareness.

It also builds operational skills, teamwork and crew cohesion.

The popular Fort Adventures children's playzone closed in late September a part of the government's shutdown of the leisure centre.

Farewell - for now - to the Fort

Islanders have been promised Fort Regent will be transformed into a 'premier leisure destination' in a £110 million project.
