Rewards For Sharing Views On Voting

Islanders will be rewarded in vouchers for taking part in a study on the barriers to voting in Jersey's elections.

It's after just 41.6% of those registered went out to vote in June's general election.

Vote.je is partnering with Nottingham Trent University to get a better understanding of what stops people from voting.

Focus groups will be asked a range of questions that will look at what encourages and discourages us from turning up to polling stations.

Dr Christopher Pich, an independent researcher from Nottingham Trent, says that voter apathy is a growing issue in many countries around the world.

"More needs to be done to ensure democracies remain healthy and strong. We can only strengthen voter-engagement by understanding the complexities and barriers associated with the voter journey."

Those who take part will be given vouchers for shops and hospitality venues at the rate of the 'living wage' which is £11.27 an hour.

They will also assess what can be brought in to encourage more people to the ballot box.

You can register to take part at vote.je.
